Change Your Life By Changing Your Thoughts

What are you thinking about? What disempowering thoughts are you telling yourself? These thoughts are the reason you are not achieving what you want in life.

The things you put your thoughts and emotions into are always coming into your life. If you are continually thinking disempowering thoughts and you want to make a change, here are a few tips and tricks.

Start by getting a pen and a small notebook and carry it with you throughout your day. Any time you have a disempowering thought, write it down, including the situation that brought it to light. This will do a few things for you. First, it will bring the thought to your awareness. Once you notice the thought, you can face it and work through it. You may find that you have a lot of the same disempowering thoughts.

I believe that the results we get in life come from three main areas: Thoughts, Feelings and Actions. Our thoughts lead to an emotion that causes us to act a certain way, thus creating a certain result. How can we then change the way we think to go from a disempowering belief to an empowering belief?

I learned great tool from one of my good friends and mentors, Bryan Miller, while going through Life’s Best Practices Breakthrough Coaching. I use it regularly and teach it to others. It looks like this:

“I will only feel         1         when I focus on the FALSE belief that         2         instead of realizing         3       .”

  1. The feeling/emotion you have surrounding the disempowering thought.
  2. The disempowering thought.
  3. Empowering thought/belief you can focus on instead.

I don’t expect you to change magically, just by plugging things into the formula. You will need to ease into it. Start with positive things you already have and believe in. Gradually you will add the things you want to bring into your life. This will take practice. Practice every day throughout the day. Practice, practice, practice.

The goal is to unlearn the disempowering thought habits. Wise words from Yoda: “You must unlearn what you have learned.” Speak solely to the parts of your beliefs that are disempowering and tear you down, then re-learn new empowering thought beliefs. Creating these will then bring you into more success and growth.
