Better Living Through Emotions
This Researcher Analyzed Hundreds Of Emotions And This Is What She Learned
Karla Mclaren has researched and written about emotions for decades.
Karla believes that emotions can be grouped into four “families” – Anger, Fear, Sadness and Happiness. In turn, each of these emotion families breaks down into more specific emotions, with seventeen distinct emotions in all.
Then, Karla says, we feel each of these 17 emotions at differing levels of intensity – from “Soft,” “Medium” to “Intense.”
Understanding and working intelligently with our emotions is one of the most powerful ways to become more skillful at living.
How To Help Your Clients Fully Vet Any Decision
When faced with a big or difficult decision, it can help to think in extremes – in terms of best- and worst-case scenarios.
It’s often easiest to start with “What’s the worst that could happen?”
Follow up with questions like “And what else?” “Why does that matter?” “And what then?”
Then, move to “What’s the best that could happen?”
Sometimes simply thinking and talking through both ends of a spectrum can bring clarity.
It can also help to remember that things seldom turn out as bad (or as good!) as we think.
Create Great Names For Your Products And Services
You help your clients (and yourself) when you give your offerings interesting, descriptive or memorable names.

Below are book titles that exemplify this well:
- Make a Promise – Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, Sexy, and Smart—Until You’re 80 and Beyond
- Create Intrigue – The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat
- Identify a Need – The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep Is Broken and How to Fix It
- State the Content – Birds of North America
